Winters are HARD!
Does anyone else find it harder to stay active this time of year? I know my daily steps drop when the temperatures do. The days are shorter, the sun becomes non-existent, and let’s face it- it’s freakin’ cold!
It is not very motivating when you open the door to walk outside and immediately are hit with a jab in the form of ice cold air. If that doesn’t knock you back inside, you take a few more steps and like clockwork, a gust of wind hits you with an upper cut. It is at this point when you question what you’re doing. However, like anything else, if you push through that initial resistance, your body starts to warm up, your breathing settles in and the walk goes from a chore to something enjoyable and refreshing. And when you finish, a tremendous sense of accomplishment sets in and you become incredibly thankful for overcoming temporary discomfort for long term gain.
Whether it’s getting out of a warm bed early, passing on foods that are not in line with your goals, or braving the cold for a walk, the principle is the same: If you truly prioritize a habit or behavioral change, you WILL make it happen regardless of the resistance and punches that are thrown your way.
If winter is challenging for you as well, you are not alone! Reach out, and let’s talk strategy!
